The Mead Nursery - Gladiolus flanaganii FLANAGANII
When checking it was correctly named via sources on the internet this gladiolus is obviously very variable in height. Our form is very dwarf and would look stunning on a sheltered, sunny rockery. It has scarlet-orange flowers in early summer. Apparently nicknamed the Suicide Lily because it grows wild in South Africa on cliff faces so is extremely difficult to photograph! 15 cm

The Mead Nursery - Gladiolus murielae MURIELAE (syn. ACIDANTHERA MURIELAE)
These sell on sight when flowering so take my word for it and buy them a little before, to enjoy all the flowers... Wonderfully scented white flowers with maroon centres, in early autumn. Not fully hardy, so either lift after the first frosts, or enjoy in a pot and dry over winter. (Some of our customers are brave and get away with leaving them in ground over winter.) Late to emerge in spring. Ready about June. 1.1 m

The Mead Nursery - Gladiolus papilio PAPILIO
In its native southern Africa, this grows in damp ground. Over here it flowers better if in damper soil, but you have to watch out for marauding slugs who like the emerging shoots in spring. It flowers in early autumn, with creamy nodding flowers flushed all through with rosy-lilac. 1 m
bulbsun

The Mead Nursery - GLADIOLUS PAPILIO RUBY PAPILIO ‘RUBY’
Much thicker stems than straight Gladiolus papilio, you almost wonder if it is a papilio type but has the characteristic nodding flowers, a good strong ruby-red in July. Flowers better if planted deeply, in damper soil. Fairly new to cultivation so still fairly rare. A much commented on plant. 1 m
